Learning Commons Librarian, Caldwell College – NJ

Caldwell College invites applications for a full time Learning Commons Librarian. Reporting to the Executive Director, Library, the Librarian will coordinate the activities of the Learning Commons; develop positive relationships with various campus partners; and initiate programs and services that support faculty scholarship, foster student learning and promote information literacy across the curriculum.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Library, this professional will have a clear vision of the learning commons model and its role in the integration of information literacy and technology into teaching and learning. This position represents an exciting opportunity to help guide library services in new and innovative directions. Job duties include, but are not limited to;

  • Implementing strategic and operational plans for the Learning Commons.
  • Designing and offering services to support the curricular, research, and information needs of students and faculty.
  • Planning and conducting assessment of evolving user needs and adapting services appropriately.
  • Actively cultivating new and/or maintaining existing partnerships with departments across campus.
  • Initiating and coordinating educational and social programming/events in the Learning Commons.
  • Creating outreach and marketing material for the Learning Commons services.
  • Serving as liaison to academic departments as assigned.
  • Covering one evening shift per week and Saturday on weekend staff rotation.

Masters degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution plus one to three years of effective academic library experience required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant technological applications also required. The successful candidate will have knowledge of and enthusiasm for learning commons and the integration of new technologies and digital media into the delivery of information services, experience providing instruction and reference assistance in an academic library, knowledge of instructional design, pedagogy and assessment principles for effective information literacy instruction. This person will be a dynamic, forward-thinking professional dedicated to proactive, user-centered service with the ability to work effectively with minimal direction both independently and on teams. Other necessary competencies include effective organizational, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, including initiative, creativity, problem solving, and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students. Candidates must be willing to support the Dominican Catholic, liberal arts mission of the College.

Founded in 1939 by the Sisters of Saint Dominic, Caldwell is a four-year, Catholic liberal arts, coeducational college enrolling approximately 2000 full and part-time students in both graduate and undergraduate programs of study.
