Job Description Reports to the Librarian at the Center of Alcohol Studies Library. Provides direct, daily supervision of services and activities in the library, including opening and closing. Ensures the security, functionality, and availability of library, equipment, and collections. Provides users with circulation services, including checkout, discharge, and user record maintenance. Resolves escalated routine and non-routine patron issues or requests. Answers user questions in person, on the phone or via email, following the CAS Library protocols and standards, including online database searching. Fills book and document delivery requests for CAS and Rutgers University Libraries. Works on special assignments for the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs. Trains, evaluates, and supervises student employees in the delivery of library services to patrons. Schedules staff, assigns and coordinates work. Processes and adds new books and journals to library catalog. Prepares and monitors time sheets, provides reports and statistics for areas of responsibility. Handles library purchases liaising with CAS Business office. Assists the librarian to maintain the CAS web site and the CAS archives. Participates in special projects as needed.
Job Requirements Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. A minimum of two years’ experience performing one or more library activities and supervisory experience. A working knowledge of various computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite, online databases, and integrated library catalogs. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, tact, discretion and diplomacy, and the ability to multi-task in a busy environment with frequent interruptions is necessary. Familiarity with the Rutgers University Libraries, the online library catalog, Workflows, and online databases preferred. Familiarity with working in a multicultural environment.
Special Conditions Ability to lift and carry books and packages weighing no more than 50 lbs.
